Following the accounts of witnesses and the writings of Ettore Guatelli, this route along the river leads from the headquarters of the Parco del Taro at Giarola to the Museo Ettore Guatelli. The walk traces memories, traditional practices and activities that have long linked people’s lives to the river—an invaluable resource and a rich source of natural materials: a place of work, discovery, nourishment and leisure, but also the setting of painful wartime events.
This is the same natural and human landscape that witnessed one of the most important and decisive episodes of World War II, remembered as the Battle of the Collecchio-Fornovo Pocket, known locally as the “Sacca di Fornovo”.
