Classic Snowshoe Hike to the Snow-Covered Lago Santo Parmense
Sunday, January 4th, 2026 - 09:30 Rifugio Lagdei
We will snowshoe through the stunning old-growth beech forest behind Rifugio Lagdei, ascending the valley that, 12,000 years ago, was occupied by the largest glacier of the Northern Apennines. Passing through steep and gently sloping sections, we will finally reach the lake, still and magical in its winter setting. Those who wish can stop near Rifugio Mariotti for a snack and some relaxation, while others may continue a short stretch to enjoy the charming small basins and clearings overlooking the lake. Around 12:30, we will all descend together back to Lagdei, arriving around 13:00–13:30.
*If there is no snow, the hike will take place as a regular winter walk.
Duration (excluding stops): 3 hours; Elevation gain: approx. 300 m; Expected return: around 13:00–13:30
Difficulty: Moderate. Requirements: hat, scarf, gloves, boots, snowshoes (available for rent at the Rifugio upon reservation with the guide for €10) and poles, plus anything else useful for a winter hike.
At the return to Rifugio Lagdei, meals are available, but reservation is always required.
Individual guide fee: €17 adults, €12 children (10–13).
