Date: 26 October 2025, 9:30 a.m.
Location: Vallerano, Calestano PR
Excursion in collaboration with Pro Loco di Calestano on the occasion of the National Black Truffle Fair of Fragno
A beautiful circular route that will introduce us to a veritable botanical monument of the Parma Apennines, a large laurel tree near Vallerano that embellishes the beautiful hills of this small, verdant valley. Perhaps we won't be able to fit 100 people underneath it, as with the famous 100-horse chestnut tree in Sicily, but we're sure there's room for about 20! After reaching the top, the tour will continue along the beautiful cart tracks halfway up the north-eastern slopes of Monte Sporno. We will follow this wide trail through woods and meadows, enjoying the panoramic views, before descending towards Vallerano and then moving on to Calestano.
Meeting point at 9.30 a.m. in Vallerano (5 minutes from Marzolara) (participants will be given the exact location for their satnav).
The hike is approximately 7-8 km long with a maximum elevation gain of 250 m, on country paths, gravel roads and (a small amount of asphalt).
We will return to the cars at around 12 noon.
Participation fee: £7.
Winter hiking clothing and boots with treaded soles are required.
At the end of the hike, you can taste Val Baganza truffle specialities at the Fragno Black Truffle National Fair in Calestano.
