Every first weekend in September, the town of Borgonovo Val Tidone celebrates the Festa d'la Chisöla, this year in its 58th edition.
The festival celebrates the product that has obtained the Denominazione Comunale d'Origine (Municipal Designation of Origin): Chisöla, a poor food of peasant origin, which consists of a mixture of water and flour with an element of animal origin, cracklings, obtained from pig fat.
A legend says that this food was offered in 1155 to Barbarossa's army passing through the lands where the village of Borgonovo Val Tidone was later built.
During the festival, the village comes alive with food stands offering traditional foods and the delicious combination of chisöla and Ortrugo, a typical white wine from the Piacenza hills.
