Festival Illica is the musical event that pays tribute to the illustrious figure of opera librettist and cultured journalist Luigi Illica.
The event returns again this year in the enchanting setting of the medieval village of Castell'Arquato. Concerts, shows and moments of in-depth analysis from 4 to 8 July for an intense week of events under the artistic direction of Jacopo Brusa.
The Festival programme for the 2023 edition includes guided tours of the native village and the Illica museum. Tastings accompanied by famous arias performed by the festival singers will follow the visits.
An exceptional appointment for the prize-giving of the composition competition will be the first performance of 'Il 3001' in concert form. Music by Voris Sarris to a libretto by Luigi Illica, revised and supplemented by Lisa Capaccioli.
Guided listening, presentations and a musical evening by the Nicolini Conservatory complete the programme.
The centrepiece of the event on the evening of Friday 7 July is the 'Nozze Istriane': lyrical drama in three acts, music by Antonio Smareglia, libretto by Luigi Illica.
