Discovering sacred places in Emilia

Exclusive visits to sanctuaries and places of worship, trekking among places of worship, concerts of sacred music and tastings of ancient monastic recipes are just some of the original experiences that can be enjoyed during the four weekends of October 2024 on the occasion of "Monasteri Aperti".

The initiative is promoted by Apt Servizi Emilia-Romagna in cooperation with the Episcopal Conference of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Emilia-Romagna Ways and Meals circuit.

 

- Piacenza, Ascent to the Guercino Dome: departing from "Kronos - Museo della Cattedrale di Piacenza", the ascent to the dome frescoed by Guercino is a fascinating ring-route that takes visitors on an experiential tour up to a height of 27 metres, where they will be thrilled to observe the Emilian artist's pictorial masterpiece up close.

- Bobbio (PC), Concert "Rosa sine spina": Saturday, 5 October at the Bobbio Monastery there will be the bagpipe concert "Rosa sine spina", a musical journey of excerpts from some of the most extraordinary manuscripts of the medieval period, including the Antiphonary of Bobbio and the Laudario of Cortona.

- Parma, The Baptistery of Parma - "The source of the Christian Faith" - exclusive visit: on Saturday 5 October and the following two Saturdays, the Diocese of Parma offers an exclusive visit dedicated to the beautiful Baptistery, a centuries-old witness of the Christian Faith together with the Cathedral.

- Parma, Journey through time: discovering Valserena Abbey": on the four Sundays of October, the Centro Studi e Archivio della Comunicazione - CSAC of the University of Parma opens the doors of the 14th-century Valserena Abbey. 

- Tizzano (PR), In the footsteps of Santa Chiara in the Apennines: along the Via dei Linari, every Sunday in October it is possible to visit the Lagrimone Monastery, meet the cloistered Poor Clare nuns, walk in the Valle dei Cavalieri, stop at the Pieve di Zibana and the Lugagnano bridge.

- Langhirano (PR), Lunch in the Torrechiara Abbey Refectory: Langhirano has two monasteries that open their doors to visitors on Sundays 13, 20 and 17: the Lagrimone Monastery and the Benedictine Abbey of Torrechiara. At the end of the excursion you can have lunch in the refectory of the Badia di Torrechiara.

- Busseto (PR), Urban trekking between places of worship and hospitality: in Busseto, on Saturday 5 October, visitors can go on an urban trekking tour of places of worship and visit the Monastery of Santa Maria degli Angeli, a small jewel to be discovered along the Via Francigena.

- Colorno (PR), Journey to discover the Colorno Monastery: on Sunday 20 October, the Cappella Ducale di San Liborio of the Reggia di Colorno hosts a special guided tour explaining the monastic life that took place in the adjoining convent of the Dominican friars.

- Fidenza (PR), Guided visit to the Convent of the Capuchin Friars Minor to discover the "Madonna of the Crocetta": the Madonna of the Crocetta , once kept inside the dedicated Oratory, is now exhibited in the Church of San Francesco in Fidenza. 

- Fontevivo (PR), Urbi et Horti market festival - the former Capuchin Convent of Fontevivo opens to the public: on Saturday 26 October and Sunday 27 October, on the occasion of the "Urbi et Horti" market festival, the municipal administration of the Municipality of Fontevivo opens to the public the premises of the former Capuchin church, which can normally only be visited by apointment.

- Campagnola Emilia (RE), Sant'Andrea al Castellazzo, the forgotten Matildic Church: in the territory of Campagnola Emilia stands the oldest building in the area: the church of Sant'Andrea al Castellazzo, "the forgotten Matildic Church". This beautiful place, where Matilde of Canossa stayed in 1108, can be visited over the weekend of 5 and 6 October.

- Casina (RE), Casina and its parish churches - Travelling between Pianzo, Paullo and Beleo - The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Pianzo: this is the initiative on Saturday 12 October, which allows visitors to visit the ancient parish churches of Reggio Emilia dating back to the 11th/12th centuries.

- Toano (RE), Guided visit to the parish church: on Saturday 5 October, the guided visit to the parish church of Toano allows visitors to visit the ancient parish church with a view of Carpineti Castle and the Bismantova Stone.

- Carpineti (RE), The Church of Sant'Andrea and the Carpinete Castle: on the days dedicated to Monasteri Aperti, it will be possible to visit ancient church and castle.

- Castelnovo ne' Monti (RE), The Hermitage of Bismantova, guided tours to discover its places and its culture: on 12 October, on the occasion of Monasteri Aperti 2024, guided tours of the Benedictine hermitage of Bismantova, (reachable by car) to discover its places and its culture are offered.

- Guastalla (RE), The Augustinian nuns' Monastery of San Carlo and the Sancturary of the Beata Vergine della Porta: the visits, conducted by expert guides, will be held at 3.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Saturday 12 October and Sunday 13 October. The visits will be accompanied by an organ concert inside the Sancturay of the B.V. della Porta.

- Rubiera (RE), An ancient hospice and a Sanctuary rich in devotianal memory on the Via Romea Imperiale: this initiative proposes several experiences with different expectations.
