The Canossa Historical Reenactment is celebrating its 35th edition!
It will take place at the Arena Bosco dell’Impero in Ciano d’Enza on September 5, 2026, in the municipality of Canossa.
The event will reenact the historic meeting that took place in January of the year 1077, featuring Pope Gregory VII and Emperor Henry IV, who, thanks to the mediation of Countess Matilda of Canossa, reached a peace agreement.
The event will take place from early afternoon onward.
5:00 p.m. – Arena Bosco dell’Impero
Step back in time in the medieval village, organized by the Contrade Canossane, featuring villagers and artisans, the blacksmith, falconry, the village of master-at-arms, the brothel, and the surgeon—blending magic and natural remedies.

6:00 p.m. – Start of the Historical Procession
The Contrade Canossane, Matilda of Canossa, Pope Gregory VII, Henry IV, reenactors, and musicians will parade to the Bosco dell’Impero Arena.
7:00 p.m. – Historical reenactment and performance of the “Perdono,” Anno Domini 1077
Starting at 9:00 p.m. – History has come to a close, but the festivities at the Arena continue inside the taverns with good food and drinks.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.
